Winner Of The Week: CODE UNIQUE
German Architecture office CODE UNIQUE Architekten GmbH have won together with IBN Laborprojekt GmbH the competition for the new chemistry institute building at Chemnitz University of Technology. The urban setting of the design proposes a compact and highly efficient structure. The new building combines functionality design quality and has a focus on an efficient and resource-saving construction. The new Institute consists of two elongated blocks that take up the spatial program and shift against each other. As a result, the areas of the offices (public) and those of the laboratories (not public) work out thematically and become legible. The semi-public areas are located at the intersection and form the link between the two areas. The elongated bars of the new building continue the existing urban planning concept of the oriented buildings and form powerful facades to the north and south. The building structure mediates towards the residential area in the east. The northern office block creates a powerful conclusion to the existing campus square.
